Natural Weed Killer

killing weeds in lawn or drivewayAt Cowpie Lawn Care, we prefer to use natural lawn solutions as much as possible for our customers as well as our own home in Mount Juliet, TN. One of the natural solutions I want to bring to your attention today is to help kill weeds or to kill pretty much any vegetation in your lawn, driveway or cracks. Depending on whether you would like to kill the weeds or area you spray permanently or just temporary, we have something you can try.
Vinegar by itself has proven itself an effective weed killer that we love. Unlike commercial weed killers, vinegar is eco-friendly and won’t harm people, pets or the environment. Vinegar’s only real drawback in certain cases is that it has no residual action, so new weeds soon arrive. Permanent removal is occasionally desirable for stubborn weeds in gravel drives and paths as well as cracks and crevices in walkways and sidewalks. Add rock salt(Best salt) or common table salt to vinegar to destroy weeds for good in these trouble spots. Just make sure to never pour the salt mixture on soil, as the solution will make sure that nothing grows in that spot again.

Natural Weed Killer Recipe

Mix 1 gallon of white vinegar into a clean lawn sprayer. You can use this by itself if you are spray in your lawn so that if you get in on your grass, it will grow back. The weeds will die however it may take a few days longer with vinegar by itself.

To kill weeds for good(and everything else for that matter), add 1 cup of rock or table salt. I sometimes add a little extra just to give it extra killing power:) Make sure you are shaking the mixture as you pour to completely dissolve the salt as much as possible.

Stir in 1 tablespoon of liquid dishwashing soap. This will act as a surfactant and make the vinegar and salt solution adhere to the weeds more efficiently.

Shake the sprayer again to ensure the mixture is well blended.

Drench the weeds with the solution on a dry, hot sunny day. Coat all surfaces well with the spray. Any plants soaked with this solution will die within several days. I prefer to do this on a hot day over 75 degrees.

Store in your garage and label the sprayer. You never have to worry about your kids getting into it again!
